Welcome to My World Little Puppy

If you are one of the lucky families to have welcomed a new little bundle of joy to your home during the holidays, let me be the first to say CONGRATULATIONS on your new family member!

Some of you might be basking in all the puppy glory.  The puppy breath.  The pudgy bellies.  The Frito feet.  Others might be saying to themselves, "What have we done?  This little clumsy bundle of fur seemed like a good idea a few weeks ago, but suddenly I'm questioning my decision."  Whichever camp you're in, I've been sent here to help you!

Let's just state the facts:  Raising a puppy is HARD!  Raising a puppy doesn't have to be so frustrating.  If you have the tools for the job, this can be a wonderful experience, even if there are accidents along the way.

#1. Potty Training is always first on my list!  Here are my top 5 tips to get you on the right track...simplified and effective.0530435001577902711.jpg

#2 Crate Training - I think it's important to provide a space that is only theirs.  That is safe, comfortable and an enjoyable space to be in.0646804001577902789.jpg

#3 Toys - every single person spoils their pup with brightly colored toys from the pet store.  Here is a list of toys that are both functional and fun.  Keeping puppies engaged with a toy is half the battle and these are tried and true in my years of working with dogs.0852472001577902869.jpg

Puppy Classes are arguably the single most important thing you can do for you puppy.  Puppy socialization is a small window of development for a puppy lasting until about 16 weeks of age.  That's 4 months and then it's over.  If you got your puppy at 8 weeks that only gives you 8 weeks to get this socializing done right.  Attending a class in which puppies are allowed to play off leash, explore new object and environments, and learn new skills is critical to preventing behavior problems from developing.  Not to mention family support for common puppy struggles and behaviors.

I offer Puppy Socialization at Magrane Pet Medical Center every Thursday evening from 6pm - 7pm for puppies up to 16 weeks of age.  This is a 5 week class in which you can start anytime, as soon as your puppy has had is first DHPP and Kennel Cough vaccine.  This class focuses on common puppy challenges, beginner obedience cues and ongoing family support to help get you through this fun but often challenging phase.
